Description
Ceropegia woodii, known as the String of Hearts, is one of the most enduring of all trailing houseplants. Slender, wiry stems carry small, heart-shaped leaves patterned with silver-grey marbling on a deep green base, and the underside of each leaf is a soft purple. The stems can trail to considerable lengths making it a perfect hanging houseplant. It is a semi-succulent: drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and forgiving of occasional neglect.
For anyone who wants something delicate in appearance but robust in practice, this is an excellent choice.
Origins
Ceropegia woodii is native to the rocky hillsides of South Africa, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe.
Soil and Substrate
Ceropegia woodii is highly sensitive to overwatering and needs a substrate that drains sharply and dries quickly between waterings. Standard tropical potting mixes retain too much moisture. Our Desert Mix is a peat-free cacti and succulent substrate formulated for fast drainage with just enough structure for healthy root development, closely replicating the shallow, rocky soils of its native habitat.
